BURUNDI KIDNEY BEANS AND PLANTAINS
Red kidney beans and plantains is usually served as a main meal on its own in Burundi, though you can serve it as a side dish. It is a very simple dish but very delicious and filling. A similar dish is cooked in Tanzania but they use cooking banana instead of green plantains. Taste-wise, there is not much difference.

1) If you need to add more water, then add hot water.
2) In Tanzania, East Africa,this dish is known as Kishumba. Sometimes, the finished dish is pounded/blended to a smooth consistency and eaten like a thick/hard porridge or fed to young children. The blended version is known as 'Kiburu'.
3)In Uganda, the green plantains are substituted with Green cooking bananas (matoke). Although the cooking method is the same, sometimes, meat and fish is also added to make a one pot meal known as 'Katogo'.
