PLAIN BOILED RICE
​Rice is a staple (main) dish in most parts of the world. Boiled rice can be served with any type of stew/soups and at any time of the day. There are different ways to cook plain rice, all with the aim of producing a fluffy textured cooked through yet dry and separate-grained. Provided here is a basic method for producing that perfect fluffy light textured rice, every time.

HOW TO COOK PLAIN BOILED RICE
​SERVINGS:
 2-3​
INGREDIENTS: 
  • 1 cup Basmati rice
  • 1¾ -2 cup water
  • 1- 2 tbs oil/ghee (optional) 
  • ¼ tsp Salt, for taste (optional)
​​METHOD
  • Wash the rice (to remove starch, grit or dust) until the water runs clear. Drain.
  • Alternatively, soak  the rice in water for about 30 min (optional), before draining.
  • Put the rice in a deep pan with the water. 
  • Add salt and oil (optional).
  • Bring to boil, stir once. Then lower the heat and let it simmer (uncovered) until the water is absorbed by the rice.
  • Then stir once again and cover the pan with a tight fitting lid. Lower the heat to the lowest possible setting and let the rice cook for about 15-20 min. 
  • When ready, remove the lid and using a fork, gently fluff up the rice.
  • Leave to stand (uncovered) for about 5 minutes before serving.

MORE RICE INFORMATION &TIPS​
1) The ratio of rice to liquid is usually 1:2 , but please check your packet instructions as all rice are different.
