EAST AFRICAN TOMATO & ONION SALAD WITH DRIED SHARK/KACHUMBARI CHA PAPA (MKAVU)
Fresh tomato and onion salad, known as Kachumbari in Kiswahili is a sort of salad similar to salsa and is a great accompaniment to many foods and snacks. Served at room temperature or slightly chilled. There are many variations and the addidtion of dried shark is one of them. Try this fresh classic East African salad and you will be making it daily!

1) De seed the green peppers to reduce their heat. Alternatively omit in the recipe if you prefer not to have any heat in your kachumbari.
2) You can substitute the lime juice with vinegar.
3) Kachumbari can be served with any meal and should preferably be consumed within the same day.
4) If dried shark is unavailable, you can be substitute with salt fish, however for the authentic taste, dried shark is the best!
